Waterproof Cast Covers are due for a Makeover...

Ugh.
This is the "Seal-Tight Active Seal Waterproof Seal for Casts and Bandages"

yep, that's right, the SATASWSCB. How's that for a short and catchy name? I require one for a certain little girl that tripped on her ballet costume and broke her ankle, 5 minutes before the end of the year recital that she'd been practicing for ALL YEAR.

So now, in addition to missing a PRIME chance to be on stage (which, as she assures me, was the WHOLE POINT of doing all that practicing all year in the first place) she will now have to wear what amounts to a blue plastic bag with a seal around her leg, if she wants to go to the Lake for Summer Camp. Which... you know, kinda sucks.

And, seriously, is this the BEST they could come up with? And I say this, having spent an entire week just trying to get my hands on one of these hideous and expensive plastic bags. I mean, come on, this is only slightly better than a garbage bag and a rubber band. For $20, there should be at least a little bling. Like, how about some cool tattoos printed on the plastic? I dunno, I'm just saying this is ugly, expensive, hard to find, and ....um, stupid. I think there is a huge market out there for attractive cast covers, waterproof and otherwise.

Hi! I stumbled on your post about your daughter’s injury and wanted to say thanks for your feedback. I work for Brown Medical Industries, the company that manufactures the SEAL-TIGHT Sport (previously called Active SEAL) you discuss above. I certainly feel for your daughter, as I was a dancer growing up as well, and can’t even imagine having to miss a recital! I hope she’s out of the cast and back at the barre by now.

We’ve recently re-named the products in our SEAL-TIGHT line – in April of this year. As you mentioned, the previous name was a bit of a tongue twister! We’ve also created new packaging that features kids, and released a new site: www.seal-tight.com. You mentioned that there should be a little bling for kids having to deal with a cast, and that’s what we tried to do with the new site. Kids can create a virtual cast to send to family and friends, and they can also play an interactive memory game with a seal. I hope you’ll take a look and let me know what you think. The point you bring up about availability is an issue for us. Although many clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies carry the product for patients, we still have room to grow. I hope that in the end, our product performed better and was more convenient than a plastic bag. That is certainly our promise to our customers.

Thanks again for your feedback and please let me know if you have additional ideas!
