If I could live again my life...

Instants
If I could live again my life,
In the next - I'll try,
- to make more mistakes,
I won't try to be so perfect,
I'll be more relaxed,
I'll be more full - than I am now,
In fact, I'll take fewer things seriously,
I'll be less hygienic,
I'll take more risks,
I'll take more trips,
I'll watch more sunsets,
I'll climb more mountains,
I'll swim more rivers,
I'll go to more places - I've never been,
I'll eat more ice creams and less (lime) beans,
I'll have more real problems - and less imaginary
ones,
I was one of those people who live prudent and prolific lives -
each minute of his life,
Of course that I had moments of joy - but,
if I could go back I'll try to have only good moments,

If you don't know - thats what life is made of,
Don't lose the now!

I was one of those who never goes anywhere
without a thermometer,
without a hot-water bottle,
and without an umbrella and without a parachute,

If I could live again - I will travel light,
If I could live again - I'll try to work bare feet
at the beginning of spring till
the end of autumn,
I'll ride more carts,
I'll watch more sunrises and play with more children,
If I have the life to live - but now I am 85,
- and I know that I am dying ...

Dorian Greyhound

I don't why, but I love stuff like this.

I was in a Ross Dress for Less the other day. I LOVE that place. Sooner or later, everything under the sun, finds it's way to Ross Dress For Less.

Shot glasses with Marylin Monroe's face on them...
Lemon zesters in the shapes of real lemons...
T- shirts with line drawings of the Eiffel tower, covered in rhinestones...
Lamps covered in leapard print and trimmed with hot pink faux ermine...
Martini mixers in the shapes of rockets...
I even saw a random pair of bronzed baby shoes there once, just for no reason.I think they were supposed to be part of a pair of book holders or something along those lines.

And things that are so strange, I can't even really describe them. Sculptures of fish and cows and frogs and I don't know what else.

A few weeks ago, when I was dragging a friend there, I found a painting. It was a nineteenth century country gentleman, in his library, in his breeches and a waistcoat. His hand was a little strange as it seemed to be made entirely of thumbs. And his face was a sad looking bull dog kind of a thing, with eyes that looked right into your soul, and a weary expression of betrayal that read to me as, "really?"

LOVED it. I was talked out of buying by said friend, only for the following reasons:
1. I don't currently have a particular friend I love enough to buy it for (and said friend was looking at me with a very glowering look, so THAT was out)
2. It needed to be in a set of three.

This is where Dorian Greyhound comes in. I'm not sure if they do sets of three, but I bet they do. And I bet they will be made entirely of wonderful.

John Saladino, and the essense of light.

Some of John Saladino's work, via Veranda, via A life's design

Saldino is using Vermeer as a reference for light in his design work.

From the Veranda article:
"I followed Vermeer's philosophy, which was to take vernacular objects and imbue them with transcendence,"

Red shiny dials are so... red... and shiny...

I can't see me spending over four thousand $$ on a stove, possibly ever. Based mostly on my lack of cooking enthusiasm (and, possibly, the errant $4k). BUT maybe, if I HAD a stove as pretty as this one, I might be more inclined to use it.

It sure is pretty.

The Heads of State Posters

San Francisco poster, via The Heads of State

I've been seeing this series of posters all over the place. I love them. I love the idea and the style. I hope they complete the set.

It's really more about the lifestyle...

Truthfully, I didn't even know I WANTED to spend nearly $500 on luggage I don't really need, till I saw the following details:

The Top 10 Reasons You Know You Need To Pack Up & Go With Your Trusty Adventure Set:

1. Your Chilean Visa just expired and some crazy stuff went down in the rain forest.

2. You found a giant box of gold when you were scuba diving in Belize. And you took it.

3. You found a secret passage in the National Gallery which lead you to a room that monitors all the conversations between the Prime Minister and Obama

4. You have to jump out of your propeller plane because the pilot turned out to be a spy.

5. You were forced to sleep with the Consulate’s daughter in order to gain secret information about the whereabouts of that damn bomb.

6. You got in a fist fight with another spy who was posing as a priest at the Vatican.

7. You lost all your money betting on poker in Monaco.

8. You lost all your money buying too much vintage champagne in Monaco.

9. You just lost all your money in Monaco.

10. You ticked off a large group of angry Nazis by stealing their map that plots to take over the world.

Just like the old days, only way more expensive

I've been wanting something like this for years. A USB drive, disguised to look like those old mixed tapes you used to make for certain people, for certain occasions... except that part of the beauty of the old mixed tapes was the cheap factor... and for $20 a pop, these are ever so slightly missing the mystique of the origionals.

Sad.

Batsy McCall Paper Dolls

When I was little, my mom handed me an envelope of her Betsy McCall paper dolls. I don't know how long she'd been collecting them, but then she started collecting some of them for me. Carefully, she would adhere each doll to a thin piece of card stock, using rubber cement, and then, when dried, cut them out.

I loved them.

Over the years, with the constant onslaught of natural disasters like brothers, dogs, and little baby sisters, the dolls sadly did not survive.

And then, today, I found this. A complete collection of all the Betsy McCall dolls ever published. I wanted to call my mom to share.... and then had one of those moments where it hit me again, that I can't do that. She would have been so excited to see these. I can picture her face so clearly, with an expression not unlike the dolls.
